1. Scope and our role

Define Joy LLC is the service provider and controller responsible for the processing described in this Policy. This Policy applies to the Services and does not govern third-party products or websites that have their own privacy notices. Our Terms of Service separately govern your use of the Services.

2. Information we process

The information processed depends on how you use the Services, your device settings, and the features available in your region.

Information you provide

• Account and profile information, such as a display name, account identifier, email address, or sign-in token if account features are offered.
• Customer-support communications, including the content of your request and attachments you choose to send.
• Transaction information relating to purchases, subscriptions, or virtual items if offered. Payment credentials are generally processed by the relevant app store or payment provider rather than by us.
• Preferences, watchlists, viewing choices, and other content or settings you save.

Information processed automatically

• Device and app data, such as device model, operating-system and app version, language, country or region, network type, IP address, advertising identifier, and technical identifiers.
• Usage and diagnostics, such as pages or screens viewed, content interactions, session timing, crash reports, performance data, and referral or campaign information.
• Security signals used to detect fraud, abuse, tampering, automated activity, or unauthorized use.

Information from other sources

We may receive limited information from app stores, sign-in providers, analytics providers, advertising partners, and customer-support providers. Their processing is also governed by their own privacy notices.

3. Why we process information

We process information to:

• provide, maintain, personalize, and improve ReelTales;
• remember preferences, maintain watchlists, recommend content, and synchronize supported features;
• process transactions and deliver purchased features where applicable;
• respond to support requests and communicate service notices;
• measure performance, diagnose errors, conduct analytics, and develop new features;
• display, measure, and limit advertising where advertising is used;
• protect the Services, users, and Define Joy LLC from fraud, abuse, and security threats; and
• comply with law and enforce our Terms of Service.

Where required by law, we rely on your consent. In other cases, processing may be necessary to perform our contract with you, comply with legal obligations, or pursue legitimate interests such as service security and improvement, subject to your rights.

4. Advertising, analytics, and similar technologies

The Services may use software development kits, local storage, cookies, and similar technologies for functionality, analytics, fraud prevention, and advertising. Advertising and measurement providers may process device identifiers, IP address, approximate location inferred from IP, campaign information, and interactions with ads or the Services. Depending on the integration, some information may be processed transiently or directly by a provider and may be treated differently under app-store disclosure rules.

You can use device or platform controls to limit personalized advertising, reset an advertising identifier, manage permissions, or clear browser storage. Where legally required, we request consent before using non-essential technologies.

5. When we disclose information

We may disclose information to:

• vendors that provide hosting, analytics, advertising, attribution, security, support, payment, and technical services on our behalf;
• app stores, identity providers, and platforms when you choose to use their services;
• professional advisers, auditors, insurers, and affiliated entities where necessary for legitimate business operations;
• law-enforcement, regulators, courts, or other parties when disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and security; and
• a buyer or successor in connection with a merger, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar corporate transaction.

We do not sell personal information for money. Certain advertising or analytics disclosures may be considered “sharing,” “selling,” or targeted advertising under some U.S. state laws; where applicable, you may exercise the opt-out rights described below.

6. Retention and security

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including providing the Services, maintaining legitimate business records, resolving disputes, preventing abuse, and meeting legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type, sensitivity, and context.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. International processing

Define Joy LLC operates from Kentucky, United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

8. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has provided information without appropriate authorization, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to investigate and delete it where required.

9. Your choices and privacy rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; and opt out of targeted advertising, sale, or sharing. You may also manage app permissions, notifications, cookies, and advertising settings through your device or platform.

To submit a request, email hello@definejoy.app and identify your request and jurisdiction. We may verify your identity and may deny or limit a request where permitted by law. Authorized agents may submit requests where applicable. You may appeal a denial by replying to our decision and stating that you wish to appeal.

10. U.S. state privacy disclosures

Residents of California and other U.S. states with comprehensive privacy laws may have additional rights regarding access, correction, deletion, portability, and opt-outs. The categories we may process are identifiers; internet or electronic-network activity; commercial information; approximate location; account and support information; and inferences used to personalize content. We use and disclose these categories for the purposes and recipients described above.

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of users under 16. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.

11. Governing framework

This Policy is governed by applicable United States federal law and the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, reflecting Define Joy LLC’s place of organization and the principal place from which the Services are administered, without limiting mandatory privacy or consumer-protection rights that apply where you live. Contractual disputes are handled as described in the Terms of Service.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy as the Services or law changes. We will post the revised version and update the effective date. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide additional notice where required.
